Yataghan (sword)



Strongly recurving blade with fuller on both sides. Obverse of blade has silver koft-gari vines & star next to fuller. Reverse side has Arabic script & date 1291 (?) (Islamic calendar) running along fuller. Stamped with comma-shapped maker's mark filled with Arabic script. Walrus ivory with large bulbous "ears" (outer 1 cracked). Copper sheathing gilded & chased in geometric patterns & inlaid with pieces of pink coral on throat of grip, strapping & down back of blade for about 1/4 of length.
