Mail and plate torso armor

1494

Description

Riveted mail coat with plate belly and flank defences; 3 rows of lamellar plates on back, flanked by larger plates, as on the front. Cusped long sleeves. Differentiated links in different areas, very likely recycled from older sources. Skirts and sleeve links of round cross-section, riveted, with interior cusps, rivets almost invisible, links worn and probably quite old. Mail on chest is similar, but heavier and all riveted. Plate components are apparently secured with butted or overlapped, de-riveted links.

Curator's Comments

Munitions-grade, perhaps a very late but honest creation using earlier components.
